When hemp became federally legal to grow after the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, growing hemp became a very attractive opportunity. Many farmers with little experience working in the cannabis industry decided to grow hemp for the first time.
One client we work with was approached by a “consultant” who convinced them to build a multi-million dollar extraction facility to process the massive quantities of hemp expected to be grown in 2019. This “consultant” came from out of state, sold them all of the equipment, and then disappeared as soon as the equipment was installed. The operation was a mess and the person who sold them everything was nowhere to be found. Some of the equipment did not function at all, some was inappropriate for processing hemp, and a few key pieces of the operation were missing entirely. Worse still, our client did not know how to properly run all of the equipment that was working.
Luckily we were put into contact with them through a mutual friend and they invited us to see their operation. Naturally, they were skeptical to work with consultants, after someone claiming to be legitimate sold them an inoperable mess and cut off contact with them. But luckily for us, they had not lost hope. They wanted to be hemp processors, and were willing to work with us to identify and solve their operational problems.
We spent hours at their facility troubleshooting problems, identifying bottlenecks, and learning the ins and outs of their specific operation. We explained to them the science behind extraction, what each piece of equipment is for, and how everything fits together. We helped them find inexpensive solutions that solved their problems, and walked them through how to implement those solutions into their production process. And once they were running, as unexpected issues arrived, we dove deep performing root-cause analyses to identify and solve those issues. We’ve worked together for over a year, and during that time they have processed over 50 tons of hemp biomass.
We are very proud to have been a part of this client’s story. We know that in our industry, relationships need to be based on trust and professionalism. Unfortunately for many companies, they often put their trust in the wrong hands. Our mission is to bring professionalism, integrity, and unique solutions to processors in the hemp and cannabis industries, and that mission is what we stand by.
